One of the most common questions we hear at CareArc is some version of: "I don't have insurance — can I still afford to come in?" The answer is almost always yes, thanks to our Sliding Fee Scale Discount Program — a benefit of CareArc's status as a Federally Qualified Health Center that many patients don't realize exists until they ask.
How the discount is calculated
Your discount is based on your household income measured against the Federal Poverty Guidelines, which the federal government updates every year. In general, the lower your income relative to your household size, the deeper your discount — some patients qualify for a nominal flat fee per visit, while others receive a percentage-based discount on standard charges.
A simplified example
- A household at or below 100% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines typically qualifies for the deepest discount tier
- Households between roughly 100–200% of the guideline usually qualify for a partial, graduated discount
- Discounts phase out above certain income thresholds, though many households are surprised to find they still qualify

What the Sliding Fee Scale covers
The discount applies to most office visits at CareArc, including medical, dental, and behavioral health appointments. It does not apply to immunizations, which are handled through separate federal and state assistance programs like Vaccines for Children.
How to apply
Qualifying is simple: share your household income and size with our front desk team, either before or during your visit. Documentation like a recent pay stub, tax return, or benefits letter speeds up the process, but our staff can walk you through exactly what's needed. If you'd rather not share income information, you'll be responsible for standard charges — there's no penalty for asking, and the conversation is private.
You don't need insurance to start
The Sliding Fee Scale is available to all qualifying patients regardless of insurance status, and it can be used alongside Medicaid, Medicare, or private insurance to reduce your out-of-pocket portion. CareArc's mission is healthcare for everyone, without exception — this program is one of the primary ways we make that real for our community.
