We've had a lot of questions about Lyon County WIC's temporary closure, so we wanted to take some time to answer them.
Why is WIC closing and for how long?
In response t the federal government shutdown, which began on Oct. 1, 2025, our office is temporarily closing. We had enough funding to staff our office until today, Oct. 10. This means there will be no staff on site to assist with WIC services. While we are uncertain abou the time frame of this closure, we hop the break is minimal. Once the government has reopened, we will return to regular business.
Are your benefits going to be affected?
Your benefits should not be affected by this temporary closure. We have worked to ensure all benefits are extended though November.
What if I have an upcoming appointment?
We have tried to contact as many families with future appointments as possible. If we were unable to contact you, we still issued benefits to prevent a lapse in services. Once we are back in office, we will attempt to tcall all familes to reschedule.
What if you want to apply for WIC services?
If you need to reapply (recertification) or apply for the first time for WIC services, we are referring you to Johnson County WIC for a remote appointment. Please keep in mind they have a large caseload, so they ay not be able to get you in as quickly and can only help those who are in danger of benefits lapsing. Their phone number is 913-715-5000.
Who do you contact if you need help?
Please direct all questions to our state agency housed within KDHE. Their phone number is 785-296-3683.
What happens if WIC is closed longer tha your benefits extend to?
The state agency has access to our appointment book and client information. If the shutdown does last longer than anticipated, please be assured the state agency will issue lapsing benefits when possible. This is an uncertain time for all, but WIC is doing all we can to ensure your family's food security.
How can I find out when you are reopened?
For information on the Lyon County WIC's office reopening, please follow the Lyon County WIC page or the CareArc Facebook pages. We will up date the comunity with more information when provide to us.
