Celebrating Heather Funan’s Nomination for the CommunityCare Awards of Excellence

We are thrilled to announce that Heather Funan, our dedicated Prescription Medication Assistant and Health Insurance Navigator at CareArc, has been nominated for the Community Care Awards of Excellence in the Care Team Member category by the Community Care Network of Kansas. This nomination is a shining recognition of Heather’s outstanding commitment to service, her deep compassion, and the powerful impact she makes every day.

The Community Care Awards of Excellence honor clinic and health center staff across Kansas who exemplify dedication, compassion, and leadership in community-based care. Nominees must come from clinics that are members of the Community Care Network or recipients of the CBPCC grant, and they must demonstrate a proven record of exceptional service to patients and unwavering commitment to the mission of their clinic. Heather’s name stands tall among these nominees.

Heather’s nomination was submitted by Lana Anstey, Medical Clinic Manager, and Renee Hively, CareArc CEO—both of whom have witnessed firsthand the extraordinary impact Heather has had on our patients and team.

Lana shared how Heather’s work ethic and attitude stood out during one of our community’s most challenging moments: the Tyson plant closure in Emporia. As families faced the sudden loss of employment and health coverage, Heather showed up ready to serve with professionalism, creativity, and empathy. “Helping those affected after open enrollment ended for marketplace insurance was no easy task,” Lana said, “but Heather handled it with grace and determination. She never backed down from the challenge and remained a steady source of support for everyone around her.” Lana also highlighted Heather’s curiosity, creativity, and joy for learning, noting her many personal interests—from crocheting to drumming to singing in a band—as further proof of her vibrant and adaptable spirit.

Renee echoed this admiration, emphasizing Heather’s unique ability to balance her dual roles with both precision and compassion. “Heather plays a vital part in ensuring our patients get access to the medications they need at prices they can afford, all while guiding them through complex insurance processes with incredible patience and understanding,” said Renee. “She brings a calm, reassuring presence that immediately puts people at ease. Her ability to listen deeply and build trust—especially with those facing health or financial difficulties—is what makes her such a powerful force on our team. She lifts up her coworkers just as much as she lifts up our patients.”

It is Heather’s breadth of gifts, dedication, and humility that make her a pillar of our team. Whether stepping in during a high-stress enrollment period or patiently listening to someone in need, she consistently brings her full heart and steady resolve to the work. Her collaborative spirit, willingness to learn, and warmth extend far beyond day-to-day tasks—they model the very values CareArc embodies.
